Mary Thomas had an interest in art from a young age enjoying drawing. After school she married and worked for a while at Searcy and Company. After her son entered first grade she began teaching at First United Methodist Preschool where she has taught for 20 years.
Five years ago she pursued art again by taking a watercolor course from well known local artist Barbara Watson. Mrs. Watson was a wonderful guide and teacher and has greatly influenced Mrs. Thomas' artwork.
Mrs. Thomas loves to paint a variety of subjects in watercolor from flowers to old farm equipment. She has also begun painting in acrylic, mostly wild turkey pictures. She has many models for this, as her husband Danny is an avid turkey hunter.
Two years ago she took a portraiture class from Marlin Adams at Gordon College. Since that time she has done numerous pencil portraits of children for local families and is also doing watercolor portraits.
